Merrick

The Young Israel of Merrick Jewish Community is here to make Jews from all over feel at home in Merrick

If you and your family are thinking about moving to Merrick we would love to hear from you and help you in whatever way we can.   We are a small but vibrant community with excellent contacts and we would be only too delighted that Jewish people moving to Merrick should benefit from these contacts.

Our community has set up a welcoming committee who will do everything possible to make you and your family feel more at home in Merrick. We are here to welcome you into our homes and our lives. We’ll tell you everything you will need to know about living in Merrick, we’ll ask you to join us for Shabbos meals and we’ll even meet you at the station. Please feel free to contact us with any questions at any time.

While many of our congregants are New Yorkers, if you would like to hear about the Merrick experiences of Jews who have settled here from the UK, South Africa, the Middle East, former Soviet Union or Latin America and others from all over the world living in Merrick contact us.

Many of our members are well respected within the business community and would welcome your questions about the local business climate. It often helps to have someone on the ground working on your behalf and we would be delighted to help in any way we can.

Education, how we can help
Merrick is centrally located among Jewish educational institutions of almost every orientation.  Many of our children attend the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County, a modern Orthodox co-ed day school. Others attend North Shore Hebrew Academy, South Shore Yeshiva, Torah Academy for Girls, Hebrew Academy of Long Beach, and Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and the Rockaways,  Also available is the Solomon Schechter day school. You can choose what best fits your children's needs and your religious orientation, and the highly regarded local public school district provides free bus transportation. The district also provides books and special education services to our children, without cost.

Members of our congregation would be happy to tell you about  their children’s experiences with local Yeshivas or with the Merrick education system. If you would like to know more, please e-mail our President Jacob Kurland with your questions.

Housing and Accommodation, how we can help
Perhaps one of the biggest challenges to moving to Merrick is finding the right accommodation. House prices have recently become much more reasonable and offer much greater value than in previous years.

Merrick offers a wide range of housing from starter homes to distinctive architectural gems.  Contact us and we will put you in touch with knowledgeable local real estate agents who are members of our community.
