SISTERHOOD:

On Wednesday night, March 28, 8:30 pm, YIM Sisterhood will have a Rosh Chodesh Nisan Lecture on Pesach (everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask) Given by Rabbi Marc Volk and Rebbitsen Jeryl Volk. It will take place at the home of Loren Daitch. All are welcome to attend. Refreshments will
be served. Any questions please call Debby Hamburg.

THE MERRICK –BELLMORE BIKUR CHOLIM
Thanks to the generosity of Ohav Sholom's Journal Dinner committee, the beautiful baskets of flowering plants that adorned the Dinner tables are now cheering up the residents of the Mayfair Care Center and brightening their surroundings. Bikur Cholim is happy to have had the opportunity to deliver the plants.
The guest speaker at Bikur Cholim's most recent meeting, Randy Tenzer, provided useful and thought-provoking insights into the psychological elements involved in visiting the ill, both for the patient
and the visitor. The meeting involved a lively discussion and role playing. We look forward to sponsoring more guest speakers in the future.
The next Variety Show will be performed on May 25. For more information, contact Jack Bouganem at 868-5888.
To volunteer in Bikur Cholim activities, or to avail yourself of the services that the Merrick Bellmore Bikur Cholim offers, please contact Bea Hoffman at 868-8256.

PESACH SHOPPING

In case you’ve been living in a cave lately (ah..we should all be so lucky) Pesach is on its merry way. And that means only one thing (besides stomach upset),: spending money—lots of it. So the only way to do it is by buying scrip. This is a golden opportunity to really help the shul and prepare for Pesach at the same time. The money is leaving your wallet no matter how you look at it so buy scrip and let the shul benefit from it as well. To buy scrip or for more information please contact Loren Daitch.

SPEAKING OF SHOPPING:

As a courtesy to some of our local merchants, we would like to notify you of the following:

  1. At Kosher Emporium – the raw meats, chicken, etc. was kosher for Pesach as of last week. The kitchen,(i.e. the take-out department) will be kosher for Pesach as of March 26.
  2. Tavlin is accepting order for Pesach cakes and cookies from Schicks Bakery located in the holy city of Brooklyn. Please have your order in no later than March 26.

SPEAKING (NON-STOP) OF PESACH:

There will be an extra edition of the Newsletter (doesn’t that just make your week?) to deal with all the rules and laws and stuff of Pesach this year. That will hopefully come out earlier in the week.

Just a reminder that next Shabbat is Shabbat Hagadol and the Rabbi’s Drasha will be next Shabbat and all are encouraged to attend. More details to follow.

QUICK HUMOUR (courtesy of Steve Reisner):

An old man had a dog - his only companion for nearly 15 years. Sadly, the dog died. The man went to see his Rabbi and asked if he would arrange to say Kaddish for the dog.
The rabbi said, "Mr. Birnbaum you know we are an Orthodox congregation, Kaddish is only for humans, not for animals. However, there's a new Reform congregation down the street a block or two. You go there and ask if they'll say Kaddish for the dog. You know they may just be meshugena enough to do this for you."
The old man thanked him, and said, "Do you suppose they'll also accept my $75,000 donation in memory of my little Moshe?"
"Hold It!" shouted the Rabbi. "You didn't tell me that your dog was Jewish?!"

Wishing everyone a Shabbat Shalom, and a Shavua Tov
